Free Try-Out Week

The Whitecaps host a FREE Swim Camp for one week prior to the beginning of the season. This free camp allows kids and adults to join us for a week to explore their love of swimming, see what the club has to offer and make new friends.

Requirements

Swimmers must meet a minimum standard of ability to participate wthout direct supervision. Swimmers must demonstrate the following abilities during a swim test:

  • Jump feet-first into deep water and submerge completely

  • Surface and swim 25 m (one length of the pool) comfortably on their stomach without stopping or resting

  • Tread water comfortably for 1 minute, maintaining both mouth and nose above the water at all times

Swimmers will also be assessed by a coach to determine ability to swim at a competitive level.

Commitment

There is no commitment to register for the upcoming season. Swimmers are expected to be on time, have a great attitude, participate and have fun! The club hopes swimmers have so much fun that they see the benefits of joining us for the season.

Swim Practice

Dryland warm up on the pool deck allows swimmers to warm up their muscles and prepare for the pool workout. Swimmers are expected to be on deck for dryland warm up at 4:15 pm everyday. Attendance is taken and dryland warm up will be done as a team before entering the pool. Bring your towel on deck for dryland!

The pool workout starts promptly at 4:30 pm and ends at 6:30 pm Monday to Friday. It is important for a parent or guardian to let the coach know if a swimmer has to leave early.

Attire

Swimmers are expected to wear a swimsuit and googles, with long hair tied back. Swim caps are optional, but recommended. Whitecaps club swim suits are required for swim meets. The club also has Whitecaps goggles, swim caps and swim suits for sale. Sizing kits will be available the week of swim camp.

Nutrition

Please ensure that your child has a water bottle on deck as they will be working very hard and hydration is very important. It is also ideal to give your child a light, healthy snack an hour before entering the pool to help keep their energy up, such as a banana, yogurt, apples or cheese.
